am looking for general purpose serializer that can directly connect to Altera FPGA transceiver. It should have 20 parallel inputs at 100MHz, and serialized into a single lane .
Is the SCAN12100 is the right and only solution?

Greetings -
Two other options would be the TLK6002 or the FPGA-Link Ser/Des (DS32EL0421).

Eli,
In addition to the TLL6002 and DS32EL0421, we also have TLK2541 that can support a 20bit input at 100MHz.

Eli,
The customer can evaluate the the TLK2541 with FPGA by building a test board but this may be too much work. If the customer is concerned about interface level interoperability, then often customers model the interface using IBIS models. I have attached the IBIS model for the TLK2541.
TLK2541 should be able to drive 2m of twisted pair cable such as twin-ax or cat5 cable. Please note that cable loss, connector loss, and the application's sensitivity to jitter will determine how long any particular cable can be driven.
Thanks,
Atul
