I'm a FAE in TIJ Kanazawa Sales office.

I have some technical inquiries regarding TUSB7320 from my customer.

Could you please replay about the following questions?

Q1. If they would use only 1 port USB, is the external EEPROM needed?

Q2. If they don't use AUX_DET, GPIO pins, is it necessary to connect with the pull down or up resister?

Q3. Do you have any application note regarding bypass capacitor for power supply lines?

or any recommendation?

Q4. Are there any TUSB7320 driver for Linux or ITRON?

If there are something, Could you provide them to customer?

Hello Takahashi-san,

Q1. External EEPROM is only optional, the TUSB7320 can work without eeprom, the unused port can be left unconnected, also it can be disabled by software using the PORT2_DIS bit on the USB Control Register at offset E0h.

Q2. If V_AUX is not present in the system, then terminal AUX_DET should be connected to ground.

Q4. The driver is supported by the Linux community, see the attached document for contact information.

Hello VILLEGAS-san

I would like to have more information regarding Q4.

TI cannnot have any suggestions regarding USB driver for TUSB7320 with ITRON.

Is It correct?

Correct,

the Linux Community is who support the driver for the xHCI and we have tested with our host with no issues.

My customer asked about the state of USB input pins, USB_SSRXP_DNx and USB_SSRXN_DNx.

If they plan to use only one USB port, should input pins of the other port be pull up or down?

Dear VILLEGAS-san

I have another question regarding TUSB7320/TUSB7340 EVM User's Guide from customer.

In the page 15, TUSB7320 DEMO EVM REVB schematics, USB super high speed lines are connected to J1 and J4 as following.

J1 and J4

SSRXN (5) ---- USB_SSRXP_DNx

SSRXP (6) ---- USB_SSRXN_DNx

SSTXN (8) ---- IND_DS_TXPx

SSTXP (10) ---- IND_DS_TXNx

So, the positive and negative differencial lines seem to be switched and connected to J1 and J4.

Is it correct conection?

Hello Takahashi-san,

USB 3.0 allow the SS signals to be swapped, so probably it was done for routing purposes on the EVM, customer may or mat not swat the SS signals.

I'm sorry, but other questions were sent from customer.

Q1. Regarding "OVERCURn#" pin

They would like to confirm the voltage for "OVERCURn#".

Is it 3.3V input?

Is its reference specification "11.4 3.3-V I/O ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS" in page107 of datasheet?

Q2. Regarding bypass capacitor for power line

In page 9 of TUSB73x0 Board Design and Layout Guidelines, 0.01uF bypass capacitor is recommended also.

Is it better to put both 0.1uF and 0.01uF as bypass capacitors for each power pins?

Q1. Correct, /OVERCUR# terminals are 3.3V I/O, table 11.4

Q2. In general for power filtering, yes, it is better to place a 0.1uF along with a 0.01uF.
