OMAP 4 to Parallel Camera Interface

Hello Tim, can you please clarify which interface technologies you'd like to convert between?  And what frequency and voltage level?

So the camera outputs 10-bit CMOS, and you'd like to convert this?

I see that this sensor can output 1.8V-3.3V CMOS data, at either YUV or 18-bit RGB.  What would you like to convert this to?  CSI-1?  CSI-2?  LVDS?  Do you need a deserializer too, or only a serializer?

Hello,

I am trying to interface to OMAP 4460, which supports both CSI-1 and CSI-2. Since this is DVP parallel 10-bits to a serial CSI, and it is a one way interface, only serializer is needed. The second parallel port is directly connected to the first camera sensor.

Can I use two 8-bit serializer chips from TI or it there a 10-bit DVP to MIPI interface chip.

Ok, so you need to convert CMOS to CSI-1 or CSI-2.  Check out the SN65LVDS315, which converts 8 data bits and 2 syncs into CSI-1.

I know the SN65LVDS31, but my original question was if I can use two of this chip to convert 10-BITS, or is there a 10-bit converter?

If the OMAP4 has a way of receiving two CSI-1 inputs and combining the data back to 10-bits, then it might be possible to use two SN65LVDS315 devices.  But this seems complex.  It'd be more straightforward to use the 8-bit YUV output mode of the OV10633.  Or alternatively, you could consider using its 18-bit RAW output mode and finding a way to get it inside the OMAP4.

This is a WDR camera sensor wih ISP. Selecting 8-bit YUV effectively throws away two least significant bits - which seems equivalent to using 8 of the 10 bits (merely connecting 8 MSBs to SN65LVDS315), and defeats the purpose of using a 100 dB dynamic range camera with 10-bit output. Alternatively, using the raw output bypasses the ISP which has to be performed by the OMAP and cannot duplicate built-in multi-exposure WDR algorithms.

There has to be a reasonable way to interface to OMAP.

Thanks, Ross. I assume there are other people out there who is facing the same issue. Since, I do not have a spec of MIPI (they ask $8K for it). it is not clear how multiple lanes are merged and de-merged.
