TUSB9261 design clarifications

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB9261, TUSB9260, TPS2560

Hi,

Presently we are developing the USB3.0 to SATA interface board  with using TUSB9261 chip.

When i saw the TUSB9261 data manual, the operating free air temperature is -40 to +85" C, But there is no information about storage temperature range.

1. Can you please confirm the storage temperature range of the TUSB9261 chip?

2. For downloading the firmware to SPI Flash through USB port, is there any tool is available (if available please share the tool & final firmware) or please explain, how

To download the firmware to SPI-Flash? (Please share the firmware download procedures)

Please reply quickly.

Thanks,

Gans

  • Hello,

    Storage temperature: -65 to 150 C

You can download the default firmware from here: http://www.ti.com/litv/zip/sllc421c

The Flash Burner Utility is used to download the firmware to the TUSB9261, it is available here: http://www.ti.com/litv/zip/sllc414c

The user's guide is here: http://www.ti.com/litv/pdf/sllu125b

All these tools and more are available at the TUSB926's web site here: http://www.ti.com/product/tusb9261#softTool

    Regards.

  • Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Please clarify my doubts as soon as possible. waiting for your reply. I have checked the SPI lines, Reset lines, SATA Interfaces. Every thing looks OK. Kindly give me your feedback. Thanks,C.Ganesh

Please find attached image (*.jpg) file for your ref.

  • Hello,

Can you send a screen capture of the Flash Burner Utility when you burn the firmware and when the SSD is not detected?

    What SSD are you using?

Can you send your schematics for review?

    Regards.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

Actually in our board current limit  resistor was implemented,After replaced the current limit resistor value, the TUSB9261 board was started working.

    Thanks for your support.

    Regards,

    Gangu

  • Hi,

We have tested the TUSB9261 Board.

We have observed one problem in the HDD act# line. Even there is no bus activity, the HDD act# line LED was glowing.

after few seconds (Approx 60 to 80 sec) the bus activity (HDD act#) LED was started blinking.

I have loaded the default firmware(U1/U2 disabled). Kindly give me the solution..

(My requirement is There is no bus activity, then the HDD act# LED line should be OFF. I have implemented circuit as per TI design recommendations.)

    Thanks,Gang

  • Hi,

    One more observations.

when ever the power reset (USB3.0 cable removed and reconnected to USB port) the TUSB9261 board SPI flash firmware was erased and in the device manager,

Our device enumerating as a "TUSB9260 Flash burner"

Kindly please give me the solutions.

    Thanks,

    Gangu..

  • Hello Gang,

The HDD_ACT# is a "disk activity and device on" so it will be ON when the device is ON, and will be blinking when there is disk activity.

Regarding the  "TUSB9260 Flash Burner" show up, this happens when there is no valid firmware on the SPI flash, if you are using the EVM you must populate the jumper shunt on J1.

    Regards.

  •

    Hi,

    Sorry for the delay.

    Thanks for your reply.

    1. When there is no read / write activity, We need HDD_Act# LED should be OFF condition, Only power ON LED should be ON.

Can you possible to modify the firmware and send to me?

    2. One more observation : After some time, the device manager is shown the "usb mass storage exclamation mark". Please find attached photos for your ref.

I have tried manual update, it's working but after power reset (USB cable removed and reconnected), again the same exclamation mark is appearing after some time.

    Looking for your immediate support.

    Thanks, Gang

  • Hello Gang,

Please send me an email to elias.villegas@ti.com to talk about the firmware customization.

  • Hi Elias,

My client has raised the query with my  TUSB9261 board. The query is regarding protecting the PC (Host) USB port from TUSB9261 board.

What protection circuit should i use on the TUSB9261 board to avoid the excess current drawn from the PC.

With this circuit on board (TPS2115ADRB) , the TUSB9261 board should not damage the USB port on the PC.

The board should not drawn the excess current from PC (Host)USB port.

    Thanks,

    Gang.

  • Hello Gang,

The TUSB9261 will never draw more than 900mA from the upstream USB connector. The SATA drive is the one that could draw more current and possibly cause an over-current event on bus-powered applications.

The recommended protection circuit is the TPS2560, you can see a very good reference of the implementation on the TUSB9261's Implementation Guide at http://www.ti.com/litv/pdf/slla315b

    Regards.

  • Hi,

I need IBIS files for the following chip. kindly share immediately.

    2. TPS2553DBVT

    3. TPS650061RUKT

    4. TPD2EUSB3.0

    Thanks,
