DS80PCI402 in a dual PCIe x2 configuration

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS80PCI402, DS80PCI102

Hello,

We're looking at PCIe Gen3 repeaters to drive our backplane.  One device of interest is TI's DS80PCI402.  This is a 4 lane repeater.  The spec states for x4 or lower configurations.  Can we configure this device as a x2 PCIe Gen3?  Can we connect dual PCIe x2 interfaces to a single TI device?

I think the answer is YES. Please confirm.

Thanks,
Alex

  • Hi Alex,

Yes, you can certainly use the DS80PCI402 for a x2 application, where you will just be leaving the unused 2 channels unconnected (50-ohm terminated is preferred).

From a flexibility standpoint if space for IC placement is a concern, it may be more convenient to use two DS80PCI102 devices instead.

    Thanks,

    Michael
