AC power adapter for TUSB8040AEVM

Hello:

I just recently purchased 2 of these, and they come with NO AC power adapter, which requires for the board to run. I find this a little odd.

Can someone form TI comment on this please?

According to the user manual, the AC power supply requires 5 V DC, and 4->5A. It did not specify the polarity of the voltage.

From what I can tell, it looks like the center pin is wired with +5V, and grounded on the outside wall. Can someone from TI confirm this please.

So, before I can do anything with this. I need to search/buy the correct AC power adapter, and I am having a little trouble with doing just that.

Any recommended 3rd party AC power adapter for this board is appreciated.

thanks,

Kiet

  • Hi Kiet,

I am not a Ti Employee, however, if you look at the power connector and compare to page 3, the top right, the center connector would be power, the outer housing would go to board ground. Also Hardware Overview page 5 900 mA per port so simple math would recommend splitting the difference to a 4.5A 5V DC center positive adapter.

For the adapters I use for this range are adapters from blown wireless routers.  There is also looking in to the different 7805 Series regulators if you would prefer to build your own ( starting at 6.5V then regulating to 5V ( needed current ) ) as another option.

    Hope this assists you,

    Eric
