Is the bi-directional control interface channel a synchronous seriell interface?

Is it linked with a I2C-protocol or is it possible to send any bitpattern as a data stream witout any protocol?

    Hi Viktor,

    The Bidirectional Control Channel is synchronous and carries both I2C protocol and GPIO data on the serial interface. The DS92LX1621/2 chipset supports up to 6 GPIOs (2 dedicated and 4 shared) in the reserve direction.
