DP83848K LED_LINK indication error

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83848K

DP83848K is configured in mode 2. When there is no connection, the LED_LINK will be OFF.

When there is connection, the LED_LINK will be ON and when there is activity, the LED_LINK will BLINK.

The above scenario happened most of the time, which indicate all the operations are OK.

However, sometimes (1 out of 10 times), some of the phyter chip will show wrong LED_LINK indication (error).

When user turns on the board but there is no connection yet, the LED_LINK will be ON all the time.

However, once the user reset the board or change the IP address, the LED_LINK operation will back to normal

Question: should LED_LINK even turn OFF at all as it is not clearly mentioned in the specs? If so, under what conditions does the light stay ON or OFF?

  • The functionality you describe in the first scenario is the expected functionality:

    • When there is no connection, LED_LINK should be off.
    • When a link has been established, LED_LINK should be on.
    • When configured for mode 2, linked and there is activity, the LED_LINK should blink.

Does the user have the ability to read and write the device registers?  Could you provide a schematic to allow confirmation of the connections?
