Question about TLK1221

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK1221

Hi there,

I have some question about TLK1221.

  1. How long is the latency for normal SERDES chip? What is the value for TLK1221?
  2. Can TLK1221 be used with Ethernet transformer? Any app notes to share on this?

Thank you in advance

Adam

  • Hi Adam,

The typical latency for a SerDes device is going to vary depending on the device architecture; i.e.: where comma detect is done (serial side or parallel side), whether there is an encoder/decoder, and various other things that pertain to the architecture of the device.

For the TLK1221 the typical latency on the Tx side is going to be 20 bit times at a minimum and 22 bit times at a maximum. On the Rx side the typical latency is going to be 18 bit times at a minimum and 24 bit times at a maximum. If you are going from transmitter to receiver between two TLK1221 the total latency would then be the combination of the Tx and Rx resulting in a minimum latency of 38 bit times and 46 bit times for the maximum.

The TLK1221 can be used as a Ethernet transformer If you can use an Iso device that is rated for your data rate. The TLK1221 is not a BaseT1000 device.
