TUSB3410 Driver Signing - Adding our VID/PID to the inf File

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB3410

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I can't seem to find the answer and I am very confused by everything I have found online from Microsoft.

We are an OEM and have used the TUSB3410 for some time now, but with the driver unsigned since we have modified the inf file with our VID/PID.  I believe I read that we can somehow sign this simply since TI has already signed the driver.  Is this true?  Can someone provide a detailed step-by-step procedure of the process?

Thanks,

Darrell

  • Hello Darell,

There is two way to obtain the signature for your modified INF file.

1.- Obtain a VeriSign signature and sign the driver by yourself.

2.- If you have a company account with Microsoft we can give you reseller right for the released TUSB3410 driver; this will allow you to obtain the Microsoft signature for your INF file trough a DUA (Driver Update Acceptable)  submission without performing the whole WHQL process.

If you choose the option #2 after we add your WQHL company’s account as a reseller you’ll be able to create a “Driver Update Acceptable (DUA) submission”. This process need to be done at the WHQL web site

     https://sysdev.microsoft.com/en-US/hardware/member/

If you are not familiarized with the DUA submission process you can take a look to the attached document “winqual-help.pdf” on the section “How to Create a Driver Update Acceptable (DUA) Submission”  page 95. For this process they’ll require the latest “Winqual Submission Tool” that can be downloaded from

     https://sysdev.microsoft.com/member/SubmissionWizard/controls/setup.exe

Please let me know if you need more information about this.

                   Best regards,

                    Roberto.

  • Hello Roberto,

Thanks for the assistance.  Sorry for being so dense, but this process is very confusing for me.

I spent a while trying to figure out what exactly you meant by "company account with Microsoft".  Finally after clicking on https://sysdev.microsoft.com/member/en-US/hardware/member/ and logging on with a Windows Live ID, I found "Create a Company Account".  One of the requirements for this is  "you must establish your company’s identity through a Microsoft Authenticode certificate from VeriSign Authentication".   Before I do that, I see that this has 1, 2 and 3 year validity periods requiring renewal.

My questions:  Once we go through the DUA submission and have a signed driver (with our modified inf file), will this stay valid even if we do not renew the Code Signing Certificate?  Would renewal of the Code Signing Certificate only be necessary if we are trying to sign another driver (or a driver update) or would our signed driver no longer be signed if the Code Signing Certificate expires?

    Thanks again,

    Darrell

  • Hello Darrell,

After you finish the signing process for your driver this signature will stay valid even if you don’t renew the Code Signing Certificate, you only need to renew it if you require to sign another driver (or a driver update).

                    Regards,

                    Roberto

  • I am getting so lost.  In creating the "Company Account", I needed to purchase a Code Signing Certificate (VeriSign - Symantec).  They sent the Certificate which I validated online.  They also instructed me to go to another link to get two intermediate certificates which I got.  I have no idea what to do with them.  It appears that we now have a "Company Account".  What do I need to do to get reseller rights for the released TUSB3410 drivers?  We would like to sign both 6.5.9018.1 and 6.7.1.0 drivers.

    Thanks again,

    Darrell

  • Roberto,

I finally got through creating a company account with Microsoft (a painful process involving much tech support from Symantec).  As mentioned above, we would like to get reseller rights and make DUA submission for both 6.5.9018.1 (for Windows versions before Win 8) and 6.7.1.0 (for Win 8).

What do we need to do now?  Can we now get the reseller rights as you mentioned?  Do we need to do this through private email?

    Thanks for the help,

  • Hello Darrell,

Could you please send me your company account name in order to provide you the reseller rights?

I prefer to do it through private email.

                    Regards,

                    Roberto.

  • I think private email is best also.  I email subscribed to your user profile.  Does that enable you to contact me?  I don't think I have your email address.

    Thanks,

    Darrell

  • Darrell,

Could you please send the information
