Using a TS3USB221 (USB native) for mux/demux a 1.8V I2C bus

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3USB221, PCA9517

Hi,

I'm looking for a 2-wire I2C 1.8V bus mux/demux with

Incidentally I'm already using a TS3USB221 for mux/demux a USB bus.

The question is, can I use the same device, powered at 3.3V, also for my I2C needs ?

  • Hello,

This is not a typical application and there are switches designed for i2c( http://www.ti.com/lit/sg/sszc003c/sszc003c.pdf ), but theoretically it should work.

    Regards.

  • Hi Elias,

    I've already considered these products.

For example, let's consider the PCA9517, the datasheets tells

"The PCA9517 is a CMOS integrated circuit that provides level shifting between low voltage (down to 0.9 V) and higher voltage (2.7 V to 5.5 V) I2C-bus or SMBus applications."

so I'm not shure it could work with VCCA=VCCB=1.8V, and you?

Please, can you, or  anyone else, suggest me a product from the I2C catalog that could work with both sides supplied with 1.8V?

    Thanks for your help,

    Gabriele
