Hello,

I am a little confused with the state diagram (figure 6) of the TKL3101 datasheet.

It says "3 Consecutive Valid IDLEs or Carrier Extends, or 1 Valid Data or Error Propagation" is needed to get to the SYNC state.

-In other posts I found, that after power up, three idles are needed to synchronize. The datasheet sounds like 1 valid data-word would be enough as well. Is that true?

-If one link partner loses synchronisation, can the TKL3101 get in SYNC state again, when no control-words are sendt from any link partner (except for power up)?

Greetings,

You are correct, the state machine will move from the ACQ state to the SYNC state if any of these four events happen (these are valid 8B/10B codes):

1. 3 Consecutive Valid Idles

2. Carrier Extend

3. 1 Valid Data Word

4. Error Propagation

If the SYNC is lost it will be reestablished as long as the transmitter is sending something from the list above.

But how can a post like this match with your answer:

" Please confirm if you're sending out IDLE characters as expected before sending out the data? Specifically, what is the composition of the header?"

Hi Luke,

I did not generate the post that you are referring to. I am simply interpreting what the data sheet states.

Are you finding that what the data sheet is stating to be untrue? Can you provide me with more details about the problem you are seeing?
