I am looking to use an Ethernet PHY to form a 'non-standard' ethernet type link at a lower transmission speed. The aim is to extend the range of the communications out to around 500 - 600m. I note that the TI part TLK100 has a range of 200m at the specified 25Mhz clock frequency.
Will the PHY run correctly if supplied with a lower frequency? For example if it was run with a 2.5Mhz clock in 10baseT mode would it operate correctly? I understand that this would result in a non-standard output but given that interoperability with standard ethernet equipment isn't required for this application this won't be a problem.
