TUSB1210 Vdd33 pin

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB1210

Hello,

We are going to use the TUSB1210 in our design, but we are curious what the tradeoffs are for powering the Vdd33 pin from the internal source and an external source?  Is there a potential power savings by using an external supply?  We are just wondering why we might want to do that?

Thanks,

-J

  • Jamaal,

The device has an internal LDO to generate Vdd33 from Vbat or you can tie Vbat to Vdd33 and use an external switchmode supply for both. Using the switchmode supply will allow higher effeciencies since the 3.3 V LDO is fairly low efficiency. From the data sheet:

"TUSB1210 integrates a 3.3 V LDO, which makes it flexible to work with either battery operated systems or pure 3.3 V supplied systems. Both the main supply and the 3.3 V power domain can be supplied through an external switched-mode converter for optimized power efficiency."
