DS32ELX0421 / DS32ELX0124 SerDes

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS32ELX0421, DS32ELX0124

HI im using DS32ELX0421 and DS32ELX0124  interface but im unable to communicate with each other as the both are not getting locked each other

  • Hi,

Can you provide more information about your system? Do you have SMBus access? It would be helpful if you can provide schematics, so that I can better understand your system.

Please also describe the configuration of these devices and detail the length and type of media you are trying to communicate across. Also, please list the input clock frequency you are using.

The more information you share, the easier it will be for me to help you.

  • Hi Gary,

If you are using a copper interconnect then long distance communication may require the use of the equalizer in the DS32EL(X)0124. The equalizer is programmable only through the SMBus interface. So if you are working with short to medium cable lengths, where a medium cable length would be comprable to 15meters of CAT-6 cable, then you could most likely operate in a pin mode. Anything beyond this range and you would need to program the EQ via the SMBus.

If you are using an optical interconnect, the singal conditioning requirements are most likely minimarl. So in this case you could most likely operate in a pin mode only.

Most of the features in this device are typically available through the pins, such as:

    • enabling/disabling of remote sense or DC balance
    • loop through enable
    • reset
    • read of lock status
    • mux select
    • vod control

The SMBus is useful for debug and configuration of other features that are not available through pin mode such as:

    • equalizer
    • adjustin the output setup/hold times(clock delay)
    • selecting the output clock rate (divide by 1 or 2)
    • enabling transmit de-emphasis on the loop through driver
    • observing the detected data rate

And as a reminder, if your customer plans to use the loop through driver they should have the remote sense feature disabled.

If you have any questions, please let me know.
