PCA9306 for I2C level shift and subsequent inverting

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCA9306

Hello,

I plan to use I2C level shifter PCA9306 to shift 3.3V logic to 5V logic. My issue is that, after being translated to 5V, the logic must also be inverted to -5V with a Zener diode in order to communicate with a negative supplied device.

In order to invert the 5V to -5V with a Zener diode, I need pull-up 10k-100k resistors on 5V sides of PCA9306. Since the values for pull-up resistors suggested on datasheet are much lower (300-1500 ohm), I would like to ask whether higher resistor values are allowed.

Below you find a picture of the possible circuit. If this is not an allowed configuration, could you please suggest a different solution?

Thank you
