Hello,

I have a question of TLK10002 Line Alignment.

TLK10002 is connected with the link partner device (FPGA Spartan 6) by means of four lines.

Data flows in all lines are independent.

Line alignment is not required.

Question:

Whether TLK will carry out data transmission to the HS line if not to carry out alignment of LS lines?

Hi Alek,

Lane alignment is essential for proper link operation when using the TLK10002. There is a proprietary scheme that needs to implemented on the upstream link partner to ensure lane alignment is achieved. The algorithm can be downloaded via the web at: http://www.ti.com/product/tlk10002.

Hi Alek,

You could also tie LS_OK pin high on the TLK10002 so that the device always thinks that it has achieved lane alignment. This would allow you to force the device into passing whatever data that is present on the low speed side side out on to the 10G link. Of course you will have to have a way of pulling the data back apart at the receiver as it may be miss aligned and possibly on different lanes.

Let's consider such situation (Page 12. Figure 8. Datasheet):

The link partner device transmit any data to LS inputs TLK10002.

Transmit lanes not aligned. Output pin of TLK10002 “LS_OK_OUT = 0”.

LAS of TLK10002 try to find proprietary lane alignment pattern.

Question:

What transmit out TLK on HS side (10G link)?

Data that is present on the low speed side TLK10002 or uncertain data?

Hi Alek,

The data that is present on the LS speed sided of the TLK10002 will transmit out on the HS side of the TLK10002 but it may not come out in the order that you expect. So you may misinterpret the data at the other side of the channel as uncertain data whn in actuality it is what was present on the LS side but in a different sequence.
