TUSB8040A Datasheet clarification

Hi everyone,

On this device, can you clarify how the traffic works for USB2.0 and USB3.0 is controlled? The datasheet appears to show that the traffic is sent on separate channels.

The main thing I'm curious about is whether or not it is possible to combine the bandwidth of 4 2.0 downstream ports and put them on one 3.0 upstream port.

Thanks,

  • Hi Matt,

In a USB 3.0 hub, USB 2.0 traffic and USB 3.0 traffic run concurrently on separate signals.  Each port has a single differential pair for USB 2.0 traffic and two differential pairs for USB 3.0 traffic. There is no way to use a standard USB 3.0 hub to translate USB 2.0 traffic to USB 3.0 traffic.
