DP83865 ethernet PHY capacitive coupling - app note or recommendations?

Hello,

for a board to board design with common ground two PHYs should be coupled together using capacitive coupling instead of using magnetics.

I'm looking for recommendations or an app note like this: http://www.micrel.com/_PDF/Ethernet/app-notes/an-120.pdf

It shows a schematic that uses 50 Ohm termination & 100nF as coupling capacitors, can this be used with a DP83865?

Is the termination also suited for the DM83865?

Regards,

Lo

  • Lo,

Please see the corresponding post on the Ethernet E2E Forum:

    http://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/ethernet/f/903/p/255776/905249.aspx#905249

As noted in that post, our 10/100 devices can support this functionality and we have a similar application note, but capacitive coupling with the DP83865 in 1000Base-T is not recommended.
