DP83848K Register Settings

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83848K

We are using the DP83848K 10/100 Mbps PHY transceiver in one of our products. We operate in the Auto negotiation mode and we want to limit the PHY link speed to 10Mbps. We have configured the Auto negotiation Advertisement register (ANAR) to advertise 10 Mbps Full and Half duplex mode support.

Here are the register values:

BMCR = 0x1000

BMSR = 0x786D

ANAR = 0x0061

We would like to confirm whether the above register setting is appropriate for a 10 Mbps Full/Half Duplex mode of operation with Auto Negotiation. Could you verify the same and get back to us?

Also, will there be any periodic 100M pulses in the link by any chance with this configuration?

Let me know.

  • Hi Jaden,

    I moved your question to this forum so that the proper people can help you with it. Please post your future Ethernet questions in the forum.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Ethernet Team,

    The customer asked the AVNET FAE to escalate this question. They are in need of a response.

    Can you verify if these are the correct register settings for th customer?

    Thanks,

    John

  • Configuring the Auto-Negotiation Advertisement Register for 0x0061 will cause the device to only advertise 10Base-T full / half duplex.  In this mode, the device will only output link pulses or (once link has been established) 10Base-T packet traffic.  As noted in the datasheet, changes to the ANAR should be followed by a re-negotiation (BMCR[9] = 0x1) to ensure that the new values are properly used.

    Note that it is not necessary to configure ANAR via register access.  The configuration can be accomplished using the AN0 and AN1 straps.  Please see the Strap Options section of the datasheet for details.
