The register addresses for the TCA6424A are not clear in the datasheet http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/scps193b/scps193b.pdf. On page ten, the text of the datasheet lists registers 0, 1, and 2 as the Input Port registers, but the table lists only registers 0 and 1 as Input Port registers. Also, the registers 7 and 11 are skipped in the text of the document. What's the correct mapping of the registers?
