TUSB7320 - About ESD protection

TUSB7320 has the following spec.

But, is the ESD protection IC necessary outside TUSB7320?

(example : TPD2EUSB30)

please give me your advice.

・HBM Human-Body ESD Rating = 1500V

・Charged-Device Model ESD Rating = 500V

    Hi Hideto,

    Well it depends on the specific application of the TUSB73x0, if a port of the TUSB73x0 is going to be connected directly to an external connector (external port) it is recommended for that port to have ESD protection, but if not, meaning that is going to be connected to something else internally (something permanently attached), then it is not necessary to use an ESD protection.
