Need LVDS TxRx to drive Cat 5E at 200Mhz for 100 meters

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA2695

Hello. I'm trying to find a way to drive  an LVDS signal, one channel each direction, Cat 5E at 200Mhz for 100 meters. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Clay,

I apologize for the delay in answering your request.  My understanding is that you are trying to amplify your LVDS signal to be transmitted over CAT 5, and that the distance over CAT5 is going to stay the same.

For that, you may want to look at the OPA2695 in a differential non-inverting circuit for both the initial amplification/line driver application and the receiving channel.  A schematic of this circuit is shown in the datasheet on page 24, figure 74.  This schematic can be used directly for the line driver, but need to be modified for the receiver section is some equalization is required.

An equalizer circuit for the receiver side is attached.  The equalization function is created by the capacitors and resistors in the gain element.

Note that any high speed dual amplifiers can be used for this function.  The OPA2695 has a pinout that allows the most symmetrical layout.
