TLK110 crossover necessary

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK110

Hello,

in our design, we use a TLK110.
Although some PCs detect the connection to the board with Auto-Negotiation, others PCs need a crossover cable to detect a connection.

I am not able to read/write the registers of the TLK110, as it is not implemented.

The Mode used is MII.

I appreciate any help!

  • Hello,

I am moving your question to the proper forum, so the correct people can address it. Please post any new Ethernet related question into this forum:

  • In the IEEE 802.3 specification, the ability of an Ethernet Phy to detect and correct for crossed or straight cabling is referred to as Automatic MDI/MDI-X Configuration or Auto Crossover.  For the TLK1xx and DP83xxx Ethernet devices from TI, this functionality is commonly referred to as Auto-MDIX.

The TLK110 supports Auto-MDIX.  This functionality is enabled by default.  The RX_ER pin can be used to set the Auto-MDIX configuration by means of a strap resistor.  If no external strap is applied to the RX_ER pin, Auto-MDIX will be enabled.  The configuration of Auto-MDIX will be reflected in bit 15 of the PHY Control Register (PHYCR), address 0x0019.

The datasheet contains further details on the Auto-MDIX functionality of the TLK110.  Please review this information and let me know if you have any additional questions.

  • That was the point, now it works. Thank you, Patrick!
