HDMI TO MIPI CSI-2 INTERFACE

We have a customer asking if TI has a HDMI to MIPI converter. They have a CPU with a MIPI CSI-2 interface and want to receive HDMI video and audio streams and process them as incoming data. Does TI have something like this?

Hi John,

No single-chip solution, for sure. This E2E post suggests a two-chip solution for CSI-1, using the TFP401A and SN65LVDS315 but you are asking for CSI-2, for which a 3-chip solution is discussed, but no definitive answer: http://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/digital_interface/f/130/p/155683/686796.aspx . I will look into this today.

Alternatively, an OMAP platform could be used, although there is much more there than just the bridge between the interfaces: http://focus.ti.com/pdfs/wtbu/OMAP4470_07-05-v2.pdf .

Thanks Leonoard. Interested in the 3 chip solution that you are investigating. If you can recommend a solution I will present it to our customer. I am going to recemmend the two chip solution that you describe above just in case the customer descides they can use it. Thanks for your help!.

Hi John,

We do not have a reference design or App Note for this, however, it would look something like:

TFP401A --RGB--> DS90UR905Q --FPDLink2--> DS90UR910 --CSI-2-->

The TFP401A is limited to DVI-compliant HDMI, and the CSI-2 output is restricted to certain formats.

I did ask this same question before and was eventually directed to this by another forum member.

It appears the only game in town now is the Toshiba T358749XBG

I think 3 chip solution will not work for 1080p@60hz since 165MHz output clock of TFP401 where DS90UR905Q accepts maximum 65Mhz input clock, am i right?
