tlk10002's mdio

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK10002

Hi,

I have two boards with tlk10002 installed on each board. Two boards are identical. But, one tlk10002 works with mdio port properly while the other without any response to the mdio port. I do not know why? I've checked all power supply to the tlk10002 pins. They are all fine. I need some clues to trouble shoot the board. Is there anyone knows what could cause this problem?

Thanks a lot!

  • Hi Yaoting,

It sounds like you may have an addressing issue. Have you tried changing the port address on the second device?

Can you observe the MDIO and MDC waveforms to make sure they are working correctly?

    Regards,

    Mike

  • Hi Mike,

    Thanks for your reply!

The port address is set to "00000" by hardware and i've checked the mdio and mdc lines by a scope. The waveform looks right.

I found an issue of reset line. It is supplied by a 3.3V reset signal. Since the spec asks 1.8V+0.3 as a maximum i am afraid it could damage the chip. Do you think it matters?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Yaoting,

I am glad to heart that you found the source of your problem!

To answer your question, I do think that the max 1.8V+0.3 does matter. These guidelines are put into the data sheet to ensure proper operation of the IC and also to protect the IC. If they are violated the IC could possibly be damaged.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

    Regards,

    Mike
