DS110DF410 - Power Consumption of EOM Circuit

Hi,

Could you please give us information of the EOM power consumption ?
There is a thread that answers EOM circuit draws about  70mW, in the following URL.

http://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/high_speed_interface/f/138/t/276123.aspx

EOM circuit is set DISABLED by default (Only turn ON when CDR state machine requires EOM function).
In this mode, I think power consumption would be what listed in the Electrical Characteristics, 720mW(TYP).

Question)
Do you mean that when EOM is set ENABLE (Always ON to read out Eye Opening), power consumption will increase 70mW/CH ?

Best Regards,
Kawai

  • Kawai-San,

DS110DF410 is an adaptive equalizer. The adaptive equalization boost settings are calculated by using figure of merit. That is we use horizontal and vertical eye opening(HEO and VEO) as a figure of merit or comparison to optimize the eye opening to guarantee optimum signal integrity or bit error. To determine HEO and VEO we have to have EOM running all the time since adaptive equalization is running in the background constantly. We use EOM to adjust CTLE settings to determine figure of merit and decide adaptive EQ boost settings. On the average power consumption is 720mW for quad channels(this includes EOM and CTLE running). Needless to say, we cannot turn off the EOM else we will not be able to do adaptive equalization.

  • Nasser-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

I will just answer customer that EOM cannot be turned off which means you cannot reduce power.
