On my customer's application, the VSS_OSC pin has been connected to PCB ground. They are using a crystal and have the circuit exactly as in the datasheet (Fig. 9-1) but also ground the VSS_OSC pin, would the part be expected to work?
Also, does the 48MHz-clocked section of the chip have any impact on the PCI-e interface side? On the newest boards (which have the crystal circuit with the aforementioned connection between VSS_OSC and ground), they can't even see the chip on the PCI-e bus (and in fact the signal coming out of the PCIE_TXP/N pins is an odd sort of triangle wave with ripple. They have a board in fab right now that has the same circuitry, so I need to know ASAP if they need to make any changes there.
