DP83865 WOL function

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83865

Question posted on behalf of a colleague:

Customer is interesting about DP83865 WOL function, and want to know more detail as below questions. Your comments and advise is very appreciated.

How does the DP83865 issue WOL event to wake up system? Does DP83865 support a physical PME pin to issue interrupt to host for WOL?

The most PHY chip support there kind of WOL detection method, Magic Packet Detection, Customized Packet Detection, Link Status Change Detection. Which one is supported by DP83865?

  • The DP83865 does not support packet detection for Wake on LAN nor does it support a PME pin.  The intention of the text in the DP83865 datasheet is to indicate that 10BASE-T mode is the recommended mode of operation for DP83865 implementations that support Wake on LAN (WOL) in the Ethernet MAC.

The DP83865 does have an interrupt pin and does support Link Status Change Detection via this interrupt pin.  This is accomplished using the Interrupt Status Register (INT_STATUS) address 0x14 (20’d) and the Interrupt Mask Register (INT_MASK) address 0x15 (21’d) as described in the datasheet.
