TMDS261B switching delay

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDS261B

Hello

Can anyone tell me any figures for the switching time/delay between 2 1080p sources with this IC please.

Thanks

Andy

  • The selecting time is ts1, which is 30ns max.

  • Many thanks for the quick response.  So any noticeable switching delay will be caused by 'handshaking' between devices?

I'm looking for a 2 into 1 HDMI switch with the fastest possible visible switching time.  Is there a TI device that will assist the handshaking process?

  • Sorry, I don't understand the question.

A device to assist on the handshaking?

    Regards.

  • Apologies - I probably didn't explain very well.  I've heard of HDMI switching systems that seem able to store or emulate EDIDs so that the handshaking process between devices is faster when switching.  I think this is because each receiving device is fooled into thinking that it has not been disconnected when switched but I could be very wrong.

Essentially, I've been asked to develop a product for retail display switching which requires a 2 into 1 HDMI switch that I will control on a timed/customer control basis.  I'm looking for the fastest switching time I can realistically achieve but that includes minimising handshaking time.  If there's anything in the TI range that you think will help then I'd very much appreciate your guidance.

    Regards

    Andy

  • Hello,

The TMDS261B does not store EDID information, and I am not aware of a switch that does.

The switching time should not present issues on a commercial application.

We might be able to provide you with an evaluation board depending on your application, please provide your email.

    Regards.

  • Hello

Thanks for the reply.  My application is for retail display control in a client's UK stores.  The product would normally connect a HDMI media player to an LCD TV until a customer presses a 'DEMO' button.  A different HDMI source is then switched to the LCD TV for a timed period and will revert to the original HDMI source.  The product will also have serial control of the media players but this is dealt with on a microcontroller.

    My email is andy@qmodus.com

    Best Regards

  • Hello Andy,

Ti is looking to have devices with this capabilities for the next generation of switches next year. Stay tuned.
