TUSB9261 Flash Burner

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB9261, TUSB9261DEMO, TUSB9260

I am using the TUSB9261 Flash Burner with the TUSB9261 Demonstration & Reference Design TUSB9261DEMO.

When I start the Flash Burner no devices are shown in the device tree of the burner.

In the XP Device Manager the TUSB9261 appears as:

Figure 2-7. TUSB9260/TUSB9261 Instances With FW Containing Mass Storage Instance Only (No HID)

If I remove the SPI Jumper and reset the board it appears in the tree.

I replace the jumper and reset the board it is gone.

I reprogrammed the board with the latest firmware:

TI TUSB926x Default Firmware, U1_U2 Disabled (Rev. I) sllc416i.zip

and see the same behavior.

Why doesn't the device appear when the jumper is installed?

Thanks - Don

  • Hi Don,

    Please try this:

    1. Download the latest firmware from TI's website. You get it it here: (http://www.ti.com/litv/zip/sllc416j).

    2. Attach a SATA device to the TUSB9261. Take in account that some SATA devices will require more power than others, if this the case please make sure to use the TUSB9261 as self powered (12V external power supply is needed). Please read the TUSB9261 DEMO Board guide (http://www.ti.com/litv/pdf/sllu139).

    3. For programming latest firmware:

    - Make sure the TUSB9261 is not connected to the programming PC.
    - Remove the SPI jumper from the board.
    - If you are using the TUSB9261 as self power, apply power to it, then connect the TUSB9261 to your programming PC via a usb cable.
    - Open the FlashBurner tool. On the device tree of the FlashBurner you will see that TUSB9261 will show as 'TUSB926x BootLoader device'.
    - Without resetting and disconnecting the TUSB9261, just put the SPI jumper back to its place.
    - Click on the 'Options' button of the Flash burner button bar and make sure that the 'Serial Number Auto-Gen' option is enabled (should have a check).
    - Select the firmware binary you will program ('.bin' file). Select the 'TUSB926x BootLoader device' instance and click program.
    - When it finishes make sure you see the 'Programming Succeeded' message.

    4. The device should enumerate properly (it might take a while for the enumeration to complete).

I also would recommend you to read the FlashBurner User's guide (http://www.ti.com/litv/pdf/sllu125c) for a better understanding of the tool and also because it contains a Troubleshoot section which could be helpful for you.

Please let me know if you have more questions or comments.

    Best Regards,

    Alexis Cortes.

  • I have already done that per your steps.

After programming it is gone from the device tree in the TUSB926x Flash Burner application.

I unplug and reconnect the USB cable and it is still gone.

The Mass Storage Device is still attached.

How do I get the TUSB9261 to appear in the  device tree in the TUSB926x Flash Burner application without removing the SPI jumper?

  • Don,

On device manager, does the TUSB9261 instance enumerate properly (both USB instance and disk instance)?

Are you using the latest FlashBurner app (http://www.ti.com/litv/zip/sllc414d)?

What kind of SATA device are you using with the TUSB9261?

What OS are you using? XP?

Have you tried a system restart?

Is it possible for you to try all of this on a different system (perhaps this could be a system specific related issue)?

    Best Regards,

    Alexis Cortes.

  • I have Flash Burner 2.9.0.0 downloaded last week.

I attached a picture of the Device Manger. The view by connections only show a USB Mass Storage Device.

Our SATA devce is a DVD RW.

I tried XP and Win7 on 2 computers.

I have restarted several times after SPI programming.

    Thanks

  • Don,

I see what the problem is now. The version of the FlashBurner you are using (and the one that is available at the website) doesn't recognize ATAPI devices (Optical drives) so that is why the drive instance is not showing on the Flash Burner.

Actually we have fixed this on a newer version of FlashBurner, however this version of the tool is not available yet on the TUSB9261 website. I will make sure that this new version of the tool be uploaded on the website, but I think it won't be available until next week.

If you can't wait until next week for the tool to be available at TI's website, please send me an e-mail to alexis.cortes@ti.com and I will gladly send a provisional installer of the tool.

    Best Regards,

    Alexis Cortes.
