CSI 1 vs CSI2

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65LVDS315

I am using the TI SN65LVDS315 Parallel to MIPI CSI 1 converter with a VGA format Omnivision sensor.

At the receiving end I am using a Toshibs CSI to Parallel (bi directional ) bridge chip to convert back to Parallel. This is purely for design verification purposes.

The Toshiba chip specifies CSI2  input and I cannot find any information relating to backwards compatibility between CSI 2 and CSI1. It seems that CSI 2 supports between 1 and 4 data lines, as opposed to only 1 for CSI 1.

Can anyone tell me if there are any reasons why a CSI 1 device will not work with CSI2.

  • Greetings -

There are three versions of MIPI CSI, 4 if you count the // one.

    • CSI1 uses subLVDS
    • CSI2 uses MIPI D-PHY that uses LP and HS modes (SLVS)
    • CSI3 uses MIPI M-PHY with embedded clock

They do not inter-operable. Dont mix and match, pair them up only.  Different levels and operation.

    Happy Trails -
