Internal Creepage Distance of TI Isolator products

Would like to check where I can find the creepage distance in TI digital isolator products.

Is there a pp notes that describe more on the TI SiO2 capacitive isolation versus other isolation method (like magnetic and optical) ?

I have a customer who needs isolator with a creepage of at least 0.4mm . Can TI isolator support this requirement?

  • Hi Ivan,

    All of the isolator products will have a table that is called "Isolator Characteristics" or "Package Characteristics". These tables will have clearance, creepage, CTI, etc. parameters for the device.

    Is there a specific number of channels you are looking to isolate? x number of inputs Y number of outputs? Most of our devices have 6-8mm of creepage.

  • Hi Ivan,

    Sorry, it just occurred to me that you were referring to the internal isolation gap. None of the digital isolators will be able to meet the .4mm that you are asking for. That clearance gap is really only comparable to other opto-isolators.

    The reason for this is that the breakdown voltage of SiO2, which is what we use for isolation median, is much higher than that of other technologies. As shown quick comparison in the Wiki Link below, SiO2 has 4 times the breakdown voltage of Polyimide, and 40 times the breakdown voltage of Epoxy. This enables our devices to have the same isolation voltage ratings as other devices with smaller internal clearance.

    What standard of isolation are you requiring for certification? For example IEC61010-1. Depending on the standard we may be able to provide additional test results in lieu of not having as high of an isolation clearance.
