Using TUSB1210 with HUB

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB1210

We should to use ULPi interface from 3730 to TUSB1210 ULPI transceiver and next USB output from TUSB1210 to one dual port HUB.  I will use only HOST mode.
My doubt is VBUS pin of USB1210. Really. my TUSB1210 "can't see" any VBUS from USB ports

because ports are connected to  HUB.
This HUB can operate in "self powered mode", what means that it's up stream (towards AM3730) is OK

(doesn't need Vbus), but I am not sure for TUSB1210.

I read data sheet for USB1210, but some parts are not clear and I am not sure.

I am afraid to make error.

saw example where USB3320 from SMSC can operate in this mode, but I prefer TUSB 1210.

Thank in advance

Regards.

  • I want to ask a few questions to make sure I understand what you are try to do.

Are you connecting two TUSB1210 ULPI PHYs to AM3730?  If so, which USB ports are you connecting to these PHYs?

I am asking this question because we have seen issues when two TUSB1210 PHYs are connected to the AM3730 EHCI host.  If you need more than one EHCI host port, you should only connect one TUSB1210 to the AM3730 EHCI host and use a hub with two or more ports for expansion.    There is no issue with connecting two TUSB1210 PHYs to AM3730 if one is connected to the EHCI host and the other is connected to the OTG controller.

Based on your description it sounds like you plan to connect an on-board hub to the TUSB1210 and you want to know what to do with VBUS.  Is this correct?

    Paul

  • Thank you for answer.

We don't want to use two USB port (two ULPI) with two TUSB1210.

We intend to connect second USB port. to onboard HUB (SMSC2422)

We have information that second and third port are only high speed and via HUB (SMSC 2422) we want to

    accomodate low speed.

Yes, you are correct. My main doubt is what to do with Vbus pin of TUSB1210 in this case (using USB1210 with SMSC2422).

    Thank in advance one more

  • Okay, now I understand.

You are correct about the EHCI host not supporting low/full speed.  You need to use the OHCI host for low/full speed and it doesn't support high speed. AM3730 requires you to choose ULPI when connecting to the EHCI host or one of the serial modes when connecting to the OHCI host.  Since you must select only one hardware interface, a ULPI PHY must be connected to the EHCI host with a downstream hub for products that need to support all three speeds.

This post was previously forwarded to the team that supports the TUSB1210, so someone on their team should be able to answer your question about VBUS.

  • Ok, thank you.
I will get answer in this forum ?

  • I am waiting too long for answer.
It is reason that I passed to USB 3320 (from SMSC)

These people are very professional and always will give quick answer and support
