DP83848 Power Feedback Circuit

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK110

Hi,

I have a question about the power feedback circuit of the DP83848. I understand that the 10uF value is required for the stability of the regulator, but we are having difficult finding a capacitor of this value that is small enough and of suitable construction for our application. We already have a 1.8V supply in our design, is it possible to use our own 1.8V rail to supply the PFBIN1 & PFBIN2 pins and if so would we be able to avoid using this 10uF capacitor?

Thanks,
John

  • John,

The device is intended to be used without an additional supply.  Connecting the PFBOUT pin to the PFBIN pins and using de-coupling capacitors is recommended.

Note that using a 10uF Tantalum capacitor is considered best practice, but is not required.  Perhaps if you choose a 10uF ceramic capacitor you can find an option in a footprint suitable for your application?

  • Hi Patrick,

Thank you for your response, using a ceramic capacitor may help us find a suitable part.  I was wondering about using the external supply as the TLK110 datasheet shows the device configured with an external supply and the PFBOUT pin left O/C, but we'll stick with the internal supply if that's what you recommend.

    Thanks again,

    John
