Does the P82B715 I2C Bus Extender support clock stretching?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: P82B715, TCA4311A

Hello,

As the subject title says, I was wondering if the P82B715 supports clock stretching. I see that some of TI's other I2C buffers explicitly state that they do, but I see no mention of it on the P82B715's product page or datasheet. An answer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

  • Mark,

The simplest answer is that if the part doesn't say it supports Clock Stretching then it should be assumed that it does not. For the part to be compatible for CLK stretching it has to ensure there is no glitch on SCL when it is released by the master and held low by the slave, and this test apparently wasn't done on the P82B715.

Is there a particular reason the P82B715 is desired in the application, as opposed to, for example, the TCA4311A which supports clock stretching and has an application diagram show the part used as a bus extender on pages 14 & 15 of the datasheet?

    Thanks,

    Brian
