DP83848 design questions

We have a new HP server Project Named Dangerfield and we are going to use the DP83848 for the RMII connection .
Below is our connection . We will have two board and each board will have one DP83848 to connect the TX and RX.
Here are the questions we have
1. Our RMII will only have TX/RX D0 and D1 , we don't have D2,D3 connect to the PHY , Can the PHY still work if we only connect D0 and D1??
2. we will have two Phys on different board, but both of them will have different Crystal , is it going to have any time issue ??

  • We have an application note on configuring the DP83848 for RMII mode at:

    http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/snla076

For RMII mode, the RXD[3:2] output pins can be left unconnected.  We recommend pulling the TXD[3:2] input pins low via resistors.

The DP83848 cannot operate from a crystal in RMII mode.  The 50MHz clock reference must be provided from an oscillator or some other clock source.
