TUSB3410 Port not enumerated in Windows 7

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB3410

Our customers are sometimes having a problem when installing the drivers on new Windows 7 systems. The drivers appear to install correctly, and the COM port shows up under device manager, but when our software runs it cannot find the COM port.  When we present a list of COM ports to the user (by enumerating the list from Windows Registry) the port does not show up.

We are using driver version 6.5.9018.1 for Windows 7 installations.

Sometimes the ports work just fine in Windows 7, and sometimes they do not.  I am not sure if the problem only happens on 64 bit versions of Windows 7, but it is possible.

Our customers running Windows 8 are installing version 6.7.1.0 and are not reporting this issue, so it appears to be either a Windows 7 problem, or a problem related to version 6.5.9018.1, or both together.

Does anyone know of this issue?  Is there a solution?

Thanks for any and all help.

  • Hello Joseph,

The driver version 6.7.2.0 is the latest driver signed for XP, Vista Win7 and Win8 we recommend to use these driver since it contains several  fixes then the 6.5.9018.1 version.

You can find it at http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/sllc428

                    Regards.

  • Hello Roberto,

Thank you for the quick reply. Are you saying that the new version will, in fact, correct this particular problem?  Or is this simply the standard " upgrade to the latest driver" suggestion?

I ask because going through another round of driver certification will be costly and time consuming.  I don't mind doing that if I am assured that this will fix the problem. But I won't be happy if we do all of that and the problem persists.

Can you assure me that this problem was specifically addressed and fixed in versions post-dating the version we are using?

Thank you again for your help.

    Joe

  • Hello Joe,

The driver have suffer a lot of change from v6.5.9018.1 to the v6.7.2, one of them fix a similar behavior that you commented, I can’t confirm that your problem is the same that we have fixed since we have not a deep analysis of your problem (both issues can have the same behavior but the reasons can be different even the problem could the application that you are using at your end).

The first step is verify if the problem is present on the latest driver. It should be done before you start any kind of certification process.

                    Regards.

                    Roberto.

  • Roberto,

In the document : "Software Release Notes for TUSB3410 WDF-USB2UART Driver v6.7.2", it states:

"These binaries are tested on Windows XP (32 bit), Windows 7 (32-bit) and Windows 8 (32 bit and 64 bit). They are working fine on all these systems."

Has the v6.7.2 driver been tested with Windows 7 (64-bit)?

I have sent you a request through private email for company reseller rights for this driver.

    Thanks,

  • Hello Stefan,

The latest TUSB3410 driver supports XP, Vista, Win7, Win8 all of them on 32-bit and 64-bit.

You can download the driver and release notes from the TUSB3410 web site

  • Roberto,

I have the same problem that Joe reported, except that I am using driver v6.7.2.
The problem does not occur on all computers: I have a Windows-7 32-bit computer and a Windows Vista 32-bit computer where the TUSB3410 virtual COM port works properly on all USB ports.

I have another Windows-7 32-bit computer where the TUSB3410 Virtual COM port appears in the Windows Device Manager (I change all my ports to COM3 regardless of the USB port used) but there are several programs that do not see COM3 (including Hyperterminal, TeraTerm, and some custom programs).

I also have a Windows-7 64-bit laptop computer that acts even more strangely. The TUSB3410 COM3 port is seen in the Device Manager when I plug into any USB port that is labeled "SS". However, as I described above, no programs see that COM port. When I plug the same device with the TUSB3410 chip into other USB ports that are not labeled "SS" (including one that is just USB 2 and one that is labeled with a High Power symbol), I get an error message: "USB Device Not Recognized". When I plug the same device into the USB ports on the docking station, it enumerates as COM3 AND CAN BE SEEN BY ALL MY PROGRAMS!

I have not modified the TUSB3410 memory and am using TI's VID/PID.

Do you know of anything that I can do to make this work on all USB ports on all Windows computers?

    Thanks,

    Greg
