SDI / HDMI SOLUTIONS

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMH0376, LMH0303, DS25CP102, LMH0302, LMH0356, LMH0346, LMH0341, LMH1983, LMH0340, SN65LVCP114

Hi,

I am attaching 2 optional block diagrams of a design that needs to be done by our customer.

The design invloves HDMI and SDI signals that needs to be switched  (Muxed) and transferred across a board.

Could you please advise best possible solutions from TI for such a design.

Thanks,

Rani

  • I can only speak to the SDI application:

The output of the LMH0376 is a reclocker, which has an LVDS output - there is a 4:1 multiplexer on the input, so I would use that as the mux and take the SDI input from the board and supply it to one of the '376 inputs.  To drive the BNC connector, you will need an SDI cable driver such as the LMH0303.

  • For the 2:1 SDI function (bottom half of the first block diagram), I see three possibilities:

    • Use a 2x2 crosspoint switch such as the DS25CP102, followed by an SDI cable driver such as the LMH0302 or LMH0303 to drive the SDI signal to the BNC.
    • Use the LMH0356 or LMH0376 SDI reclocker in place of the LMH0346, followed by an SDI cable driver such at the LMH0302 or LMH0303 to drive the SDI signal to the BNC.  The LMH0356 / LMH0376 includes a 4:1 input MUX which would support the 2:1 function.
    • Single-chip solution: Use the LMH0341 SDI deserializer, which includes a 2:1 input MUX and provides a reclocked loop through output with an SDI cable driver.  You could feed your two input signals to the RXIN0 and RXIN1 inputs on this device, and then select which of these signals is reclocked and sent to the TXOUT output to drive the SDI signal to the BNC.

I am not aware of a TI device with two HDMI outputs to use for the HDMI splitter function.

For the HDMI to SDI converter, you need some processing, such as from an FPGA.  TI provides some devices to help with this, such as the LMH0340 for the serialization, the LMH1983 for the SDI clocking, and also stand-alone SDI cable drivers to drive the SDI signal to the BNC.  But you still need an HDMI receiver on the front end and something (e.g. FPGA) to do the processing for the format conversion.

  • Hi Rani,

You could use the SN65LVCP114 MUXed buffer for the HDMI and the SDI application. There are enough lanes on the device to handle the 3 data and 1 clock lane of HDMI as well as the SDI data. It has a DIAG mode that can be implemented to fan out the incoming data to its destinations.  Please let me know if you have any questions.
