Searching for a tranceiver

Hi, We are working in a Intelligent metering application and We are looking for a Transceiver with the next features:

-Frecuency bands Up to 920 MHz

-flexibility for mesh topology conection

-Band Wide at least 100 Kbps

-Data FIFOs: Separate 128-byte RX and TX

-It has to Cover a distance of aproximately 30+ km

-The comunication betwen transceivers has to be given in TCP protocol.

-It has to identify an IP adress

Is there any tranceiver you might suggest to me?

Hi Aldo,

I am going to move your question over to the Ethernet Forum in hopes that they can help you more. Since you are talking about TCP protocol, I figured they could be a start.

With that being said, I feel that you may be mixing requirements of a lot of different types of communication (mesh makes me think of wireless standards like Zigbee or Wi-Fi, and TCP makes me think of Ethernet). To my knowledge you will not get 30KM or more out of any copper medium data interface. In addition usually a PHY, or the transceiver in the network, does not negotiate an address, this is something that is handled by the MAC layer of the system.

Aldo,

I can confirm that this is not something we could support with our Ethernet portfolio. As alluded to by John, the distance alone presents issues for a standard Ethernet implementation.

Rather than searching for a single transceiver component, this sounds like a development for a system or a module? Am I interpreting your requirements correctly in that sense?

Thank you for the useful information, also I would like to know about the range of distance in (Km) that TI Transceiver normally are able to cover in ideal conditions without any obstacle in between, furthermore the factors involved in the radio's distance of transmition

Hi Aldo,

A conservative estimation is shown in the following wiki that I wrote a while back.

This shows lengths of up to 4-5KM possible with a large trade-off in data rate. At this length you are limited usually to under 100KBPS.
