Question about SMPTE 424/SDI 3G 1:2 splitter application

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMH0307, LMH0344, DS30EA101, DS30BA101

Hi,

I am looking to design a SMPTE 424/SDI 3G one input to 2 output splitter/distribution circuit. I have the following questions:

1. I am looking at a DS30EA101/DS30BA101 combo or possibly a LMH0344/LMH0307 implementation. What would be the differences or advantages/disadvantages of those product choices in general? I'm confused to the differences related to basic functionality between the DS and LMH series.

2. Concerning the 30EA101, I have seen some other designs where pins 4 and 5 were not DNC and actually had a capacitor between them. If I were to use this part, is there any history to that particular change from the data sheet application?

3.If I were to require a 1:4 circuit, could I use the LMH0307 as the cable driver(s) without needing to manage the part using SMB bus?

Thanks,

Mitch

    1)   The LMH03xx series of products were designed and are tested specifically to meet the SMPTE specs, including SMPTE 424.   The DS products are derivatives intended for other markets where SMPTE compliance is not a requirement.

    2)  The 'EA101 does not require the capacitor,  but there are some earlier, pin compatible devices that did use a cap in that location.  When we did the EA101 design and it didn't need the cap, we left those pins as DNC to allow for backward compatibility.

    3)  Yes, the default mode for the LMH0307 is to take one CML input, and to provide four SMPTE 424 compliant outputs.
