I would like to confirm that once powered up I should be able to transmit data to/from Master 0 to/from the Slave device without any initial software communication with the device.

    The answer is yes it does.

    I am connecting an SMB charger to Mstr0 and a uC to Mstr1 to read data from the battery. The SMB battery is the slave. The issue I have is thet the charger isn't aware of the PCA9541 so it can directly start charging the batteries as it is connected by default. I can then use the uC on Mstr1 to read the batteries number of cycles etc. To switch the charger back to the batteries I use the reset.
