RJ45 jack connector chassis pin connection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83848I-MAU-EK

Hello,

Have been using DP83848 for Ethernet communication, till now had connected RJ-45 chassis pins to device's power supply ground and was working perfectly. But in one of the application which included AC supply, ethernet communication failed and was able to resolve only after eliminating the device ground to the RJ-45 jack chassis pin.

So my query is what should be the solution for RJ-45 chassis pins, Whether they can be left un-connected or should be grounded seperately?

Regards,

Chirag

  • Chirag,

We have some recommendations on the RJ-45 and MDI connections in our Ethernet Design and Layout guide (http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/snla079).

You can also see an implementation of this in the DP83848 MAU schematics (http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/snlr022) on the DP83848I-MAU-EK eval board page (http://www.ti.com/tool/dp83848i-mau-ek).
