TLK2711A cable: single coax, dual coax, or STP?

The use case is to transmit a video signal from an imager with pixel clock between 85MHz and 120MHz over a distance of 2 meters (6 feet), minimizing the number of wires as much as possible.

The TLK2711A looks like a good candidate for the job, but in the section called "APPLICATION INFORMATION" of the datasheet it seems that it needs 2 coax cables to transmit the differential signal (and two other for reception, which I may use to send commands back to the imager).

So the question is if it would be possible to use only one coax cable, or even shielded twisted pair, and what the circuit would look like.

  • Hi Alex,

It is differential signal, so it should use shielded twisted pair or two coax cable. But it is obvious that a shielded twisted pair is cheap. We prefer to use RJ45, as it is cheap and can fit many kinds of cables. CAT6 cable can works well, but i am not sure if CAT5E is ok, you can find the proper one.

    Best Regards
