TFP401A Sync absent at the output

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TFP401A, TFP401

Hi,

DVI Receiver TFP401A is used in the design. I face the issue that at times the Sync ( Hsync / Vsync) signals are lost at the output. Only DE and DCLK are present at the output. Sync detect is High. The pixel data are correctly displayed on the LCD though!

What could be the possible reason for this?  Any suggestions?

Thanks and regards,

Sriram SR

  • One possibility when using the TFP401A is that if the number of pixels when DE is high (Active display) is an odd number, the TFP401A may not sample the HSYNC and VSYNC signal.  This can occur if the transmitter does not encode a stable DE signal.  The TFP401A requires an even number of pixels to be present during active display time in order to generate a stable HSYNC and VSYNC signal.  Some transmitters were known to add jitter on the HSYNC and VSYNC signals, the TFP401A was designed to compensate for those errors, but correct DE signal timing is needed to do so.  Replacing the TFP401A with a TFP401 could verify if this is the issue, or if possible capturing the signals on the transmitter side could also help to verify this.
