MAX3221 Asynchronous communication controller

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MAX3221

Hello TI team - I have a HID USB/I2C device that I want to try & use this MAX3221 IC as a UART interface to a PC.

The datasheet states that it is a asynchronous communication controller, but does not show any reference schematic/design.

Is there a way take my USB or I2C data lines and tie them into the input of the MAX3221 IC and make this work?

I searched the forums, but did not see any mention about this.

Thank you

  • John,

The MAX3221 is a "logic to RS232 bus" transceiver. It simply passes signal without any processing. To send formatted data, an UART is normally used. Most UART are x86 type bus devices. I am not aware of a UART that is directly compatible with USB or IC2.
