1:4 LVDS to LVCMOS/LVTTL Fan Out Buffer

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65MLVD048, SN65LVDS104, SN65LVDS048A

Hi Team,

Could the SN65MLVD048 be used with single standard LVDS backplane signal as input(s)?

Other recommendations?  We seem to make 1:4 the other way.

Thanks, Dan

Subject: Help 1:4 LVDS to LVCMOS/LVTTL IC

Hi  Loretta,

Maybe you can help me with this request, I am working on a project and need a 1:4  LVDS to LVCMOS/LVTTL IC. I have a +3.3V LVDS clock signal (40MHz) coming into the board that needs to go to 4 components that have single ended LVCMOS inputs. I am hoping to find a component that does this.

  • Hi Dan,

Yes, the SN65MLVD048 can be used with a single standard LVDS signal as an input.  There will be stubs but this can be minimized with layout considerations.  It also depends on the phase requirements by the customer, which was not mentioned.  Note that there is no output to output skew specified in the SN65MLVD048 data sheet.  The lab measurements indicate that it is typically 150ps.

As an alternative, you can also consider using the SN65LVDS104, which is a 4-port LVDS repeater which will fan out the single LVDS signal into 4 LVDS signals, which you can then feed into an SN65LVDS048A, which is a LVDS quad differential line receiver with LVTTL outputs.  The SN65LVDS104 has a channel-to-channel output skew of 20ps(typ) and 100ps(max).  The SN65LVDS048A has a channel-to-channel output skew of 50ps(typ) and 500ps(max).

I hope this helps.  Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Hi Melanie,

Our customer would prefer a single IC solution.  Do we have any that would meet his requirements?

    Thanks,

    Loretta

  • Hi Loretta,

Using the SN65MLVD048 would be a one-chip solution if the output to output skew meets the requirements of the customer application.
