TFP401 EDID Setup

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TFP401, TFP401A

Hi Community,

I am using TFP401 to convert HDMI to CSI(Camera serial interface) signal. I have attached schematic of hardware.  I am using two sabrelite board & this converter. First sabrelite HDMI output is connected to this converter & CSI output of converter is given to other sabrelite board.

Converter uses HDMI cable as power supply to turn on TFP401. when I connect HDMI cable to this converter I got Hot Plug detect interrupt. But transmitter can't able to read any EDID information so it stops HDMI transmission. can you please provide me any dummy EDID or document which I can help me to figure out this problem.

Driver of converter is counting number of HSYNC & VSYNC to calculate resolution. I think if TFP401 is on & it is getting HDMI signal then DE pin should be high & should get HSYNC & VSYNC.

Can I tell me basic steps to verify TFP401 is working.

Thanks In advance,

Pratik

  • Hello Pratik,

I have a question, Are you trying to send video from the CMOS sensor to the HDMI connector?. If so, then you misunderstood the functionality of the TFP401A, because this device will convert the TMDS signal (input) to RGB parallel video data (output).

Please let me know if my thought is correct.

    Best regards,

    Diego.

  • Hi Diego,

       Thanks for your fast reply.

I am trying to convert HDMI signal to CSI signal. I am giving HDMI singal as a input to TFP401 & giving QE[8:15] of TFP401 to CSI.  As I am not handling any EDID here, HDMI source can't to pump HDMI signal. Can I get any dummy EDID or can i completely skip EDID transation?

I have use PC & sabrelite board as an HDMI source.

    My other question is

If TFP401 is getting HDMI Signal What can be other test points other than DE enable?

    Thanks,

    Pratik

  • Hello,

The EDID information is stored on a ROM independent of the TFP401, typically the panels have this ROM, this connectes directly to the graphics controller via the HDMI/DVI cable.

If there is no EDID information available it is likely that the graphics controller will default to a defined resolution (probably a low resolution).

Another thing to take into account is that the TFP401 can only decode TMDS video-only streams, if there is audio embedded on the TMDS stream the TFP401 will not sync.

    Regards.
