DP83848m MAC address

We're using DP83848m for our product.  After the Linux is booted up, we already see there is a MAC address associated with eth0 interface.

Is that MAC address already a valid MAC address ?  Do we need to buy MAC address from IEEE for assigning to the DP83848m ?

    Eric,

    The MAC address is related to the layer above the PHY.  The DP83848M won't have a MAC address and won't perform any operations based on the MAC address.  You should follow up with the support team for your MCU / uP / FPGA regarding whether the MAC address is valid or if you need to get a MAC address from IEEE.
