SN6501 output current rating

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN6501

Dear Sir

How much maximum output current rating of SN6501 can do?

My SPEC is 5V to 5Vout / 0.24A and 3.3V to 3.3Vout / 0.24A (2.5KV)

I would like to use

2pcs of SN6501 + 2pcs of 760390012 to do 5Vout / 0.24A and

2pcs of SN6501 + 2pcs of 760390014 to do 3.3Vout /0.24A

May I do that?

  • Hi Kai,

The maximum continuous power dissipation for this device is 250mW as shown in the Absolute Maximum Ratings Table on page 3. Furthermore, the maximum continuous output current we recommend for a 3.3 volt primary supply is 150mA, whereas with a 5.0 volt supply the maximum output current we recommend is 350mA.

This is due to the fact that as the VCC on the device drops, the gate drive voltage drops, and therefore the RDSON of the output N channel FETs increase.

    Thanks,

    John

  • Dear John

    Thanks for your reply

So...Your means my first schematic 5V to 5Viso could support max output current 350mA and second schematic 3.3V to 3.3Viso could support max output current 150mA ,but 3.3Viso's output current will be limit by LDO 100mA

    Is it right?

  • Hi Kai,

Correct, the 5V to 5V example you gave, will work without any problems. But the 3.3V to 3.3V schematic is only capable of sourcing 150mA continuously from the SN6501. Are you saying that the LDO has a 100mA current limit? So the 150mA limitation of the device should not cause an issue?

    Thanks,

    John

  • Dear John

    Thanks for your reply clearly

I will use EVM to verify it

    Thanks
